Bisexual Police Officer Sexually Harassed and Assaulted
Officer Kristin Stein, who identifies as a bisexual, was sexually assaulted on at least one occasion and continuously harassed over the course of one year. In October 5th of 2021, it was reported that she had filed a lawsuit against the Town of Greenburgh, the Greenburgh Police Department, and 16 Greenburgh police officers.
The most shocking incident occurred in 2019, when a male officer came up behind her while she was leaning over a table. He then simulated a sex act with her before throwing her into the middle of the room. Incredibly, another officer accidentally turned his body cam on before the incident took place, and this bodycam footage clearly shows a room filled with officers who were laughing at this clear example of sexual assault. However, the body camera footage does not actually show the sexual assault itself – only the other officers laughing.
In addition, Stein suffered through a year filled with sexual harassment. Inappropriate texts, comments, sexual jokes, sexual solicitations, and pornographic videos were all part of this clearly toxic work environment. In addition, many of the officers made inappropriate comments towards Stein after learning that she was bisexual and that she had a girlfriend.
Stein Was Retaliated Against
After complaining to her supervisors, little was done to address the sexual assault. Eventually, Stein decided to leave transfer to another department. However, she alleges that her supervisor interfered with her job application process, claiming that she was a “sexual harassment liability.” She didn’t get the job. Now she is filing a lawsuit, claiming that she has been “blacklisted” as a police officer.
