Corpus Christi health director alleges unfair treatment based on gender

Corpus Christi, TX – Employees are entitled to work in an environment where they will not be mistreated based on their gender or sex. Various kinds of actions that can be considered discrimination or unfair treatment based on these protected classes are sexual harassment. Lawsuits in this area focus on whether the person was treated differently from employees working in a similar capacity, and whether their work environment would be considered hostile by anyone in the same situation.

Sexual harassment lawyers will often have to conduct a fact intensive investigation to determine if they have a legitimate case against the employer. For this reason, any worker who believes that they may be a victim of sexual harassment or discrimination should take note of any problems that are ongoing and speak with their attorney.

Local news in Texas said that the City of Corpus Christi needed to allocate additional funding towards an ongoing labor lawsuit related to equal pay issues [1].

Former health director sues city of Corpus Christi

The city needed to budget $161,000 more towards litigation related to a former public health director. This was in addition to approximately $50,000 that had already been spent on the case and associated legal fees previously.

The subject matter of the case was that the former public health director alleged that she was a victim of a hostile work environment and sex based discrimination. This was essentially a sexual harassment lawsuit brought under the state’s equal pay act. The lawsuit also alleges that the city manager had a history of discrimination against workers based on age, and that only a small fraction of the director positions are filled by women. Shortly after the case began, the city of Corpus Christi started to form its own health district and ended participation in a joint program with other municipalities. This prompted a response from the plaintiff that reorganizing the health district was actually a form of retaliation, and that they plan to report the incident to the federal EEOC as well. The defendant told the local news that there were various inaccuracies in the lawsuit, but he was advised to not comment any further on the ongoing litigation.
