A Hollywood star-maker has recently announced that he plans to close his talent agency after nine women of color accused him of sexual harassment. Vincent Cirrincione, 70, who helped shape actresses such as Halle Berry and Taraji P. Henson into becoming two of the most talented women in Hollywood, issued a statement saying that he is closing his management company to prevent distracting his actors and actresses from their careers and opportunities. A portion of his is statement read, “It is with incredibly great sadness that at this time that I believe it’s in the best interest of all my actors and actresses that I represent to close my management company.”

According to APR, eight African-American women and one Asian woman have come forward claiming that “Cirrincione had portrayed himself as a champion of young women of color in Hollywood but was instead a predator who asked for sex in exchange for him representing them.” One of the women who spoke up but whose name was left unanimous said the star-maker would reference Berry and Henson’s careers as an example of what he could do for her, but his help would come at a price. That price didn’t exactly involve currency.

Although Cirrincione acknowledged that he did seek sex, he said he never linked his desire for it to helping guide women of color through Hollywood. He admitted that he had affairs while he was in a committed relationship, and is “now shamed to say they are coming to light and shading his past and reputation.” While he may have been wrong to engage in an affair, Cirrincione said that he “never used favors, sexual or otherwise, as a reason for managing anyone.” He stated that all the relationships he was in were consensual.

Halle Berry and Taraji P. Henson Speak Out on the Recent News

After the two Hollywood stars heard about the agency closing and the reason why, they both took to Instagram to express how they felt. Berry said that she was “saddened” and “sick” after reading the detailed accounts of the abuse her former manager inflicted on these nine women. What made her even more upset was that he used her name to lure and manipulate “innocent and vulnerable” women of color “for his predatory actions.”

Henson said that she was “saddened, disappointed, and ashamed” by her manager’s actions. She stated that his actions “put professional women in a position to not trust the men they work with.”

The fact is, there are many women who aspire to become a well-known actress and many agencies are aware of this. Some managers at these agencies use this as a means for taking advantage of these vulnerable women just like Cirrincione allegedly did simply because they have a proven track record that they can help a woman become a star. And some individuals become so desperate to make their dreams a reality that they allow this behavior to slide.

But, it is important for everyone to be aware that in no way shape or form is it OK for a person who holds a position of power to use it to take advantage of another person.
