San Diego, CA- San Diego’s naughty Mayor is pretty damn stubborn, because he still refuses to resign even after seven women have come forward accusing him of inappropriate sexual conduct. In a press conference early this afternoon, Bob “Dirty Old Man” Filner apologized for his behavior and said he would seek counseling.

“I must become a better person,” Filner said in the press conference, which had a rocky start because of technological difficulties. Filner admitted his actions were “inexcusable” and he recognized that he has hurt the women around him.

Even though numerous people and organizations have repeatedly asked the Mayor to step down, he refuses. Earlier today, the chairwoman of the Democratic National Party Chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz called for his resignation.

“There is no place for this type of conduct in the workplace and certainly not in our city halls and public offices,” she said, according to ABC News.

The state Democratic Party is considering a recall petition which could be very costly to the San Diego taxpayers. On Thursday, the party chairs voted overwhelmingly in favor of asking Mayor Filner to resign.

“We are not here to determine guilt or innocence,” Francine Busby, chair of the San Diego County Democrats, wrote in a statement. “However, in the best interest of the city, the San Diego County Democratic Party has voted to ask Mayor Filner to step down, seek the personal help that he needs, and allow San Diego to move forward.”

Instead of resigning, which– let’s be honest—is what Filner should do, he has decided to enter into a two week counseling program. During the press conference, Filner said he would enter into a counseling program in August where he will stay for two weeks. He said he will undergo “intensive therapy,” to “address his behavior.”

He said the therapy is just the first step to becoming a better person. He also said “I must take responsibility so it doesn’t happen again.” He said the intensive therapy is just the first step in changing his inappropriate mayor and told reporters he would continue to be counseled after therapy.

Filner will continue to carry out some of his duties as Mayor while in the treatment program. He will receive briefings in the morning and the evening. He will exit the treatment program on August 19th and resume his full time duties.

Therapy is not enough for his victims, who still insist he needs to resign. Thus far Filner is only facing one sexual harassment lawsuit. It is only a matter of time before Mayor Filner faces more lawsuits of more victims come forward.

The one lawsuit he is facing was filed by Irene Jackson McCormack who is being represented by tenacious attorney Gloria Allred will likely be successful and could cost San Diego taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Maybe therapy can help Mayor Filner, but it’s nearly impossible remove the taint of this scandal from his name, but he is certainly going to try.
