Los Angeles, CA- The NBA has banned LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling for life after a racist rant recorded by his mistress became the subject of national headlines over the weekend causing much outrage in and out of the sports world.

Over the weekend, Vanessa Stiviano released a rant she recorded of Sterling telling her she should not be seen at LA Clipper games or in any other public spaces with black people and players. The shocking rant went on to show what a racist Sterling is and even President Obama weighed in on the controversy.

Several notable Clipper sponsors rejected the Sterling’s comments and severed their relationship with team.

Many were left to wonder if the NBA would take action and sanction the old bigot, but they took it a step farther.

Today, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced that Silver would be banned or life. That means he can’t attend any NBA games or practices, including the Clippers which Sterling owns. He cannot go to Clipper offices or facilities or have any say in any of the team’s personnel or business decisions.

Silver will also try and force Sterling to sell the Clippers and has already fined him $2.5 million dollars.

“We stand together in condemning Mr. Sterling’s views,” Silver said, according to the Palm Beach Post. “They simply have no place in the NBA.”

“This league is far bigger than any one owner, any one coach and any one player,” Silver said in a press conference.

Silver said that fine will be donated to non-profit organizations dedicated to raising awareness about discrimination and teaching tolerance. Then NBA and the Player’s Association will chose the organizations that will receive donations.

Sterling purchased the Clippers for $12.5 million 33 years ago, and has owned a NBA team longer than anyone else. But the team isn’t his how he became wealthy; Sterling owns a great deal of rental real-estate, mostly apartment complexes, in the Los Angeles area.

An ESPN magazine story from 2009 exposed, Sterling for discriminating against blacks and Latinos in his rental practices. That story characterized Sterling as a racist bigot which the NBA and other owners were allegedly completely aware of.

Sterling’s discriminatory practices were not exclusive to his rental properties; he has also been accused of discriminating against players and was also the subject of a sexual harassment suit.

Sterling’s mistress Vanessa Stiviano leaked the recorded rants to TMZ, and described him in court documents as a man who has no problem with “brandishing his sexual prowess in the faces of the Paparazzi and caring less what anyone else thought, the least of which, his own wife.”

In an even stranger twist, Rochelle Sterling, Donald’s wife of 50 years is suing Staviano for $2.5 million dollars for the lavish gifts her husband gave the young women throughout their long-term affair; the second time she’s sued one of his mistresses. Instead of divorcing her philandering husband, Mrs. Sterling sues the women he has sex with.
