Ubisoft the Latest Video Game Company to Face Sexual Harassment Allegations
Ubisoft is the latest video game company to face sexual harassment allegations, joining other recent companies such as Riot Games and Blizzard. Although Ubisoft is headquartered in France, it maintains offices in San Francisco, California and many other areas of the world. The company’s most recent sexual harassment scandal is a result of its activities in Singapore, another major hub for the developer. This isn’t even the first time Ubisoft has faced sexual harassment accusations, either.

What is Ubisoft Being Accused Of?
On August 17th, it was reported that Singapore’s national workplace watchdog had launched an official investigation into Ubisoft’s studio due to numerous allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination. Various complaints had been made by former developers, and one stated that it was widely known that “Ubisoft Singapore is one of the worst Ubisoft studios in terms of culture.”
Singapore’s watchdog is now urging anyone with information about sexual harassment, sexual assault, or any other potential crimes to come forward immediately. The organizations also reminded Ubisoft that it has the power to change the company’s workplace policies and to force Ubisoft employers to collect evidence on its behalf.
The worst-case scenario is that Ubisoft’s foreign personnel at the studio lose their work permits and are forced to leave the country. More than half of the senior positions at Ubisoft Singapore are filled by foreign nationals. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has responded to the allegations, stating that he takes these issues seriously.
This is the Second Sexual Harassment Scandal in a Year for Ubisoft
In July of 2020, Ubisoft was facing another sexual harassment scandal. In this particular case, the focus was on the company’s studio in Montreal, Canada. According to various reports, the company ignored complaints of sexual misconduct, allowing a “culture of harassment” to develop. In some cases, this misconduct was “fueled by alcohol,” according to the BBC. At the end of the day, three high-level executives were forced to resign as a result of the controversy, including Ubisoft vice-presidents Maxime Beland and Tommy Francois, as well as global head of HR Cecile Cornet.
