Difference Between Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault

Sexual harassment, though not appropriate, is less severe than sexual assault and, in most cases, is a violation of civil law. Sexual assault, on the other hand, is a serious offense that carries criminal charges. Any of the following defines sexual assault:  

  • Rape.
  • Attempted rape.
  • Forcing a victim to perform sexual acts, such as oral sex or penetration of the perpetrator’s body.
  • Fondling or unwanted sexual touching.
